Money in politics is making the United States the laughing stock of much of the world.

We have long known that the business of America is business while we simultaneously boast that we are a democracy and the indispensable nation to the world, but just look at us now. America is for sale!

The very wealthy donate unrestricted dollars to elect presidents, senators, members of the House, governors and down the line to do their bidding. So yes, a big time donor still has only one direct vote but his or her money can buy thousands or millions of votes for the chosen candidate through publicity, ads, advisors, campaign workers etc., who will be beholden to his or her benefactor. This is all justified, if not blessed, in the name of ‘freedom of speech’ by the country’s ill-reputed Supreme Court! Is this a democracy? A plutocracy, an oligarchy or simply another banana republic?
