Iran has the second largest natural gas reserves in the world, after Russia, yet it ranks number 25 in gas exports. Iran has the fourth largest oil reserves, after Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Canada, yet ranks number 10 in oil production, producing only 2.5–3 mbd today compared to 6 mbd in 1979.
