America’s Foreign Policy ‘Brain Trust’ Fails Yet Again

As Kabul burns, U.S. politicians and the media act bewildered. How could this happen so quickly? It took a mere nine days for the Taliban to take over. The U.S. has been in Afghanistan for 20 years training the Afghan army. It has spent $1–2 trillion. The Afghan army was four times the size of the Taliban forces. America’s immediate concern: can it get Americans and Afghans who helped the U.S. effort out? The focus of American politicians and the media is on the U.S. with little concern for the people of Afghanistan and their future.
